Fulham star Andreas Pereira drew criticism from the Manchester United fanbase with his recent statement about that club that nurtured him
Andreas Pereira expressed that leaving Manchester United to join Fulham was the best decision of his life, drawing fans criticism. As the social media exploded, some fans understood that the player was merely thanking his current club for the opportunity.
Pereira officially stayed with the Red Devils for 11 years after joining the academy system in 2011 from PSV Eindhoven. The 28-year-old spent plenty of seasons on loan to different clubs as he struggled to break into the United’s first-team.
The Brazil international joined Fulham during the summer of 2022 and established himself as an important attacking player for them. Fulham established themselves in the Premier League by finishing 10th that season after returning with a promotion from the Championship.
The London club finished 13th last season, making sure that they are not a one-season wonder but here to stay. The Brazil international made 44 appearances in all competitions for Fulham, scoring three goals and providing nine assists last season.
Speaking to Standard Sport, Pereira highlighted that leaving Man United helped him enhance his career further, playing regularly at Fulham. He said:
I think it was the best decision [leaving United] I made in my life. To come to live and play here, to enjoy my football, to get back into the national team with great players, to enjoy my football in the Premier League, leaving is the best decision I made. The time I was there, I really enjoyed being at a fantastic club. But I don’t regret leaving. We [the players in my situation] have this desire to show it was wrong that we didn’t play. With everyone’s help around me [at Fulham], I achieved
a great season.
The social media fanbase divided itself after this interview as many called it disrespect towards the club that built him. At the same time, a lot of fans argued that Pereira is merely paying respect to Fulham for trusting him.

Nevertheless, Pareira’s decision to leave United was mutually beneficial as he would have struggled to get games even now. The Reds Devils have faced turmoil in their attack due to inconsistency in individual players and struggle with injuries.

The situation does not change the fact that Pereira never caught the eye of the fans and staff to justify a regular place. United require more contribution from their attacking players and despite the great season Pereira enjoyed at Fulham, his contributions are still significantly less than what a club of United’s stature desires.
