Man United open to Scott McTominay exit but only for the right price

Manchester United are open to letting Scott McTominay leave this summer but only if their £40m valuation of the player is met.

Turkish champions Galatasaray and fellow Premier League side Fulham are currently leading the race for the Scotland international’s signature, the former having seen a joint €21m offer for McTominay and Aaron Wan-Bissaka rejected by the Red Devils.

McTominay is valued by Transfermarkt at €32 million (approximately £27 million).

The 27-year-old came through for Erik ten Hag in clutch moments last season despite not being the first-choice pick in the United midfield.

His current £60k-a-week contract at Old Trafford is set to run until the end of this season.

According to TeamTalk, Galatasaray are ready to prepare a fresh bid for McTominay, though they are unlikely to go beyond €15 million for him.

McTominay for United in 2023/24 across all competitions: 43 games, 10 goals, 3 assists.

A fair strategy

It is highly unlikely that United will get an offer anywhere close to £40 million, though it’s okay to have wild dreams.

If the Scot pushes for a move, United should take what they can get, register the pure profit on his sale, and move on. If he wishes to stay, having him in the dressing room won’t be the worst thing in the world, as long as he understands that he cannot be United’s first midfielder on the team sheet for 60 games per season.

If United are going to prove themselves as shrewd negotiators going forward, they’ll need to project that

both inside and outside the club.
