Man United linked Matthijs de Ligt not part of Bayern Munich’s South Korea pre-season tour
Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt has been left out of the Bayern Munich squad for their pre-season tour of South Korea, sparking further speculation regarding his future with the club.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, De Ligt has already agreed personal terms with Man United as the club attempts to reunite him with Erik ten Hag, for whom he captained Eredivisie side Ajax as a teenager.
Bayern are asking for around €50 million to let the Netherlands international go, though the two sides remain a bit far in their respective valuations of the player despite an agreement expected to be reached soon.
Having left Juventus to go to Bayern just two summers ago for €67 million, De Ligt has been targeted by United. He emerged as one of the hottest young prospects during the famous 2018/19 season that saw Ajax almost make the final of the Champions League.
However, ever since leaving Amsterdam, De Ligt has shone only in fleeting moments during his stints in Turin and Munich.
Having had an injury-stricken season last time out, De Ligt made just 30 appearances across all competitions as the Bavarian giants lost their long-held Bundesliga crown. His current €16m-per-year contract is set to run until June 2027.
Name the price and take the prize
The signs are good for Man United. Their previous €35m bid for De Ligt was rejected by Bayern, though as things
stand, given the Dutchman’s omission from their pre-season squad, it looks like Bayern are likely to agree a deal closer to United’s previous bid than their €50m valuation. That said, we could still see a war of attrition play out in front of us, with United having lost new signing Leny Yoro to injury, prompting Bayern to expect United to get a bit desperate and come closer to their valuation.
