Marcus Rashford reveals “dreams of winning the big trophies” at Man United

In a recent interview given to Man United’s in-house media channel while on tour of the US, Marcus Rashford talked about, among other things, his dreams as a Red Devil.

“I think as you get older, your dreams change as well.

“So, you know, in the beginning it was just about playing for Man United. And when you get there, it’s about winning. So I still have, you know, dreams of winning the big trophies, the Premier League and Champions League with Man United. So, you know, hopefully we can get that done.”

The interview was conducted by MUTV’s Sam Homewood in Los Angeles.

As Rashford prepares for the coming season, one can expect him to want to put the previous one behind. The last season was one to forget for the England international.

After his 30-goal haul in 2022/23, the 26-year-old failed to even make it to double digits last season, registering just eight goals and five assists in 43 appearances across all competitions.

Rashford’s poor performances led to not only frequent drops from the starting XI but also omission from the England setup in the lead-up to UEFA Euro 2024.

An exit has also been reported in recent months, with PSG touted as a likely destination.

Talks of a move have died down recently, however, as Rashford prepares for another season at Old Trafford. His £375,000-a-week contract is set to run until June 2028. He is currently valued at around £51m.

Fight to survive

Rashford’s dream is an improbable one, though one never knows in football. After all, how many people gave United a chance to win the FA Cup a couple of months back?

That said, the way United and Rashford have progressed over the last decade is worthy neither of the Premier League nor the Champions League, which is why both remain solidly in mid-table.

There’s work to do this season. Rashford looks like he’s going to stay, making this a make-or-break campaign for him. The new sporting ownership of the club does not look like the kind that will wait around like the last guys, not even for the beloved homegrown players.
