Man United looking to take Sofyan Amrabat on loan again
According to the Manchester Evening News, Man United are considering bringing back Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina again this summer.
This time, however, the loan move is likely to entail an obligation to buy the Moroccan next summer.
Amrabat returned to Fiorentina at the end of last season as United decided not to pay the €25m fee the Serie A side were demanding. The permanent transfer fee this time round is expected to reduce to around £10.5 million.
The Morocco international, who particularly rose to fame midway through the 2022/23 season for his performances in the World Cup in Qatar, had a mixed bag of a season at Old Trafford last time round. Having started in an underwhelming manner, Amrabat saw his performances improve towards the back end of the campaign as United themselves put a full stop to their otherwise forgettable season with an FA Cup triumph over Man City.
In all, Amrabat made 30 appearances for United across all competitions last season, accumulating 9 yellow cards but providing no goals or assists.
The 27-year-old’s €1.92m-a-year contract at the Stadio Artemio Franchi is set to expire next summer.
Not the worst idea
For a player they could be losing for free next season, Fiorentina would consider themselves quite lucky if they were to strike up this deal with United that would see them walk away with more than £10 million.
United also, on the other hand, are getting a better deal for a player in his prime years who had started performing well towards the business end of last season, indicating that he might have finally gotten accustomed to the speed of English football.
Let us not forget that Man City’s Rodri had a hard time adapting to the pace of the Premier League, and it was Fernandinho’s availability for three seasons that allowed the Spaniard time to slowly establish himself as one of the best deep-lying midfielders currently operating in world football.
