Erik ten Hag backs Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has backed English forward Marcus Rashford, claiming the 26-year-old can rediscover his prime form in the upcoming season for the Red Devils. The Dutch manager has also added former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as his assistant coach, according to the Daily Mail.

Rashford started his football journey as a goalkeeper at a young age and ended up as a star winger for the Red Devils. He joined the United academy at the age of seven and developed through the ranks of the United youth team. The England international scored two goals in his debut for his boyhood club against Midtjylland in the Europa League in 2016.

Since his debut, the 26-year-old has flourished at Old Trafford with stellar performances on the flanks. He has scored 131 goals and provided 66 assists in 272 games for the Red Devils during his eight-year journey with the senior team. Rashford also thrived under the Dutch manager, scoring 30 goals and providing 10 assists under Ten Hag in the 2022/23 season.

However, the forward had an underwhelming performance last season for the Red Devils. Despite signing a new £300,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford, Rashford only managed to score eight goals and provide five assists in his 43 appearances. The club also failed to perform as a whole last season, finishing eighth in the Premier League.

United manager Ten Hag has immense trust in the winger and believes Rashford can rediscover his form in the upcoming season.

“He is capable, he scores so many goals, already at a relatively young age, he is capable of it. So I am confident, 100 per cent belief, he can do the same as two years ago.”

The Dutch manager also added former United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as his assistant coach, stating that he can help the strikers and get the best out of them (h/t Daily Mail).

“The reason Ruud is here is clear, he can help the strikers, but he is much more than this,”

United need Rashford

It is a ‘do or die’ season for United manager Erik ten Hag. He gained confidence through winning the FA Cup against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. The Dutch manager has started to bolster his squad for the new season and has completed two spectacular signings in the summer.

The tactician has faith in Rashford, who is a versatile performer for the club. The 26-year-old has proved his ability at Old Trafford by playing different roles in the attacking line. Ten Hag expects him to regain his prime form and perform for the Red Devils in the new season, considering him a prized asset for the club.
