Manchester United keen on signing Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton

Manchester United summer target English defender Jarrad Branthwaite has refused to sign a new contract with Everton unless they match the Red Devils’ wages. United have already launched two bids for the player, but the Premier League rivals have rejected those. Erik ten Hag is all set to add more players in the backline in the summer, per Caught Offside.

The 22-year-old returned to the Merseyside club last summer after his loan stint with the Dutch club PSV Eindhoven. The young prodigy has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the English-top-flight league with his performances last season with Everton.

He played 41 games for the Toffees and scored three goals across all competitions in the last campaign. He also impressed the English manager Gareth Southgate and was named in England’s probable squad for Euro, but he couldn’t make it to the final squad. Transfermarkt values him at around £35.5m.

With two years left with the Merseyside club, the young defender could move in the summer and United made two bids for the centre-back, which was rejected by Everton. The Red Devils made their last bid worth a total of £50m and Everton is expecting £70m for the English defender.

Branthwaite refused to sign a new contract for the Toffees, which gives hope for United. Erik ten Hag has already signed the French defender Leny Yoro in the summer from Lille and is currently searching for another central defender in the summer transfer market.

Manchester United need to bolster their backline as they lost their two stopper backs, Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala, in the summer and they have made a promising young addition to the squad by signing Yoro from Lille. Also, the Dutch manager is focusing on the young heads in the summer to strengthen his squad ahead of the new season.

Branthwaite had a dazzling season with Everton, and United are keen on signing him in the summer. £70m is a lot of money for a centre-back and the Red Devils are ready to spend the hefty amount for the young defender. He will be a prized asset for the club and the 22-year-old can develop his game and skills at Old Trafford.

The Dutch tactician can create a young defensive pair in the squad with Yoro and Branthwaite, and the English defender’s experience will help the Red Devils in the upcoming season. He will not sign a new contract with Everton unless they offer him a hefty amount like United.
