Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat is keen on returning to Manchester United
According to a report from Italian outlet TUTTOmercato, Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat wants to return to Manchester United having left Old Trafford this summer upon the expiration of his loan deal.
Sofyan Amrabat spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Manchester United, with boss Erik ten Hag convincing the recruitment team to bring him to the club having managed him earlier in his career at FC Utrecht. Before his move to Old Trafford, he had caught the eye with impressive displays at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as Morocco made a shock run to the semi-finals.
Forced to deputise at left-back initially owing to an injury crisis, Sofyan Amrabat struggled to make an impact for Erik ten Hag’s side. He was in and out of the starting XI which hampered his consistency levels and refrained from establishing himself under the Dutch tactician.
However, the 27-year-old came good at the business end of the campaign and played a crucial role in Man United beating cross-town rivals Man City in the FA Cup final.
Now back to Fiorentina, the defensive midfielder is waiting for a solution to his future. TUTTOmercato reports Man United’s €20 million option to buy Amrabat has expired, although they are working to bring him back to the club on Ten Hag’s demands.
The Red Devils feel they can sign the Moroccan enforcer at a cheaper price this summer—so they are set to either propose a fresh loan with the right to buy or a permanent purchase but less than last summer’s quoted €20 million price.
Amrabat has returned to training in Florence and was spotted hitting the gym in Man United shorts on his Instagram story. It is very clear that he wants to return to the Mancunian giants permanently this time around as the 27-year-old feels his chapter with Fiorentina is over, regardless of still having a contract until 2026.
The 20-time English champions have been busy making moves in the summer transfer window. After wrapping up deals for Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, Ten Hag wants to add a new midfielder to his squad owing to doubts surrounding the futures of several players.
The club are thought to be open to selling Casemiro, who has been on Saudi Pro League clubs’ radar for months. Christian Eriksen has entered the final year of his contract, whereas Scott McTominay is attracting interest from Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur.

Having settled down eventually after a slow start to life in Manchester, INEOS hopes to negotiate a cheaper fee than €20 million for Amrabat. The player is heading into the peak stages of his career and would be a solid squad rotational option for Ten Hag. If we can get the defensive midfielder’s signature for around €12-15 million, it would represent another shrewd piece of business done by INEOS.
