Manchester United interested in signing Feyenoord defender David Hancko
According to a report from The Daily Mirror, Feyenoord star David Hancko has emerged as a potential left-back target for Manchester United.
The Red Devils have headed to the three-game US pre-season tour with no recognised senior left-back in the squad. Tyrell Malacia, who missed the entire last season after twice undergoing surgery to address a knee issue, has been left out of the upcoming pre-season tour as he continues his rehabilitation.
Luke Shaw is on an extended holiday break following his involvement at Euro 2024, while Diogo Dalot—last season’s club’s Player of the Year—is not yet available having helped Portugal reach the quarter-finals of the tournament in Germany.
This has compelled Manchester United to dip in the transfer market for a new left-back to start the 2024/25 campaign, with Erik ten Hag using academy kids Sam Murray and Harry Amass in that position in the opening two pre-season games against Rosenborg and Rangers.
The aforementioned report claims Feyenoord’s David Hancko is on the Mancunian club’s three-man left-back shortlist. The list also includes former Chelsea and Barcelona defender Marcos Alonso, who is currently a free agent and Crystal Palace star Tyrick Mitchell.
Hancko enjoyed a fantastic 2023/24 season, playing almost every available league minute for Feyenoord as they missed out on the Eredivisie title to PSV Eindhoven. The 26-year-old took his fine form to the Euro 2024 and performed exceptionally well for Slovakia, helping them reach the last 16 of the tournament.
The left-footed defender is coming off the back of an impressive European Championships and Eredivisie season. Thus, Feyenoord are reluctant to sell him for cheap and want €35 million. Atletico Madrid’s move for Hancko has hit a snag recently, allowing Man United a window of opportunity to swoop in.
As Erik ten Hag and Co. are in the market for a left-sided centre-back/left-back hybrid option, who can provide cover and competition for Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw, Hancko would fit the criteria perfectly. The Feyenoord man can play both positions with utmost ease, as evidenced by his performances for Slovakia at the Euros.

Having been priced out of a move for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, Hancko at a supposed €35 million is an affordable and realistic alternative for the Red Devils. The Slovakian has been a consistent performer for Feyenoord since 2022, and his combination of quality and affordability makes him a no-brainer for us.
