Man United eye Noussair Mazraoui amid West Ham links

Man United are looking to make a move for Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui this summer.

According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are looking to reinforce their fullback options and have identified the Morocco international as someone who could strengthen them, especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka heavily linked with an exit.

West Ham United are also reportedly in for Mazraoui and could be in for Wan-Bissaka if a move does not materialise.

Mazraoui moved to Munich after his contract at Ajax expired. However, in his two seasons at the club, he has failed to lock down a starting position and has shone only in fleeting moments.

He has so far made 55 appearances for Bayern across all competitions, scoring once and assisting eight times.

Valued by Transfermarkt at €30 million, Mazraoui’s €8m-a-year contract at the Allianz Arena is set to expire in June 2026.

Of course, Mazraoui is another former player of Erik ten Hag linked with a move to Old Trafford alongside Matthijs de Ligt, both of whom established themselves as two of the most promising defenders under the Dutchman during their Ajax days.

The Red Devils need to take charge here

The proactivity with which United have secured the transfers of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro is refreshing and commendable, and that is exactly how they need to operate here as well.

Wan-Bissaka has long been established to be limited in his ability to take United to the level they want to return to and should be allowed to leave, especially since West Ham are interested, regardless of how much of a loss they will have to take.

By sending Wan-Bissaka to West Ham, the Red Devils would not only open up a fullback slot for Mazraoui, they’d also take out West Ham’s interest in the process.

Mazraoui is a much better operator on the ball and capable of occupying either flank; this should be a no-brainer for United if a deal can be made.
