Antony to stay with Manchester United for the upcoming season
Despite loan transfer rumours, agent of Manchester United star Antony has confirmed that the Brazilian star will continue his spell at Old Trafford. Antony has been linked with multiple clubs for a loan move in the past few weeks.
Antony joined United in 2022, along with Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez, following their spell with the Dutch club Ajax. The Brazilian was one of the first signings by Dutch manager Erik ten Hag for the Red Devils. Ten Hag had worked with Antony at Ajax for two seasons and brought him to England for his new stint.
However, the 24-year-old winger has struggled in the English top-flight league and has been an underwhelming performer in the squad over the last two years. Despite scoring some spectacular goals from outside the box, he has not met the expectations at Old Trafford.
Antony has only managed to score 11 goals and provide five assists in 82 games for the club over two years, leading to rumours of a potential loan move. However, Antony’s agent Junior Pedroso has clarified the player’s future, confirming that he will remain a mainstay at the club for the upcoming season (h/t Manchester Evening News).
“I see reports about potential exit on loan. Antony’s plan is clear: Manchester United. He wants to stay, he’s only focused on Man United. We already spoke about that with the club.”
How Ten Hag will use Antony
The Dutch manager has immense trust in the young Brazilian winger, giving him significant playing time at the club. Antony has often performed well as a substitute rather than as a starter. He even got labelled ‘outstanding’ by defender Phil Bardsley.
Ten Hag told AD: “I am still convinced that Antony has the potential to play at this club. He certainly showed that potential in the first month. He scored three times in his first three games. After that it became more difficult, last season was not good.”
Ten Hag may start with Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford on the right flank, with Antony likely featuring in the second halves from the bench. The Brazilian is known for his ball control and pace, and Ten Hag may use him as a key player on the right flank. Additionally, Amad Diallo, an emerging winger at the club, could take over Antony’s position if he fails to prove his value at Old Trafford.
