Manchester United want Sofyan Amrabat on a discount this summer
Manchester United have been busy in the last week or so as they finally kicked off business in the transfer window with Joshua Zirkzee’s and Leny Yoro’s signings from Bologna and Lille, respectively.
Sooner rather than later, the Red Devils will also need to turn their attention towards a rebuild in midfield and it does look like they are finally ready to resolve Sofyan Amrabat’s situation.
The Moroccan spent last season on loan at Old Trafford having joined from Fiorentina with an option to make the deal permanent for a £16.8 million fee.
United have decided against triggering that option as Amrabat was lacklustre for much of the season and only showed an improvement in form in the latter parts of 2023/24.
They are, however, willing to negotiate a lower transfer fee with Fiorentina this summer to make the midfielder’s transfer permanent as he will remain in Erik ten Hag’s plans, as per Daily Mail.
It remains to be seen whether Fiorentina are ready to negotiate an even lower transfer fee for Amrabat but the midfielder has already confirmed his desire to stay in England for longer. He said:
‘Do I already know what I’m going to do next year? No. We are going to talk. Staying is certainly an option. Look, I think it has been a very difficult season. For Manchester United it needs to be much better, and also for me personally. We are going to talk. Manchester United are the biggest club in the world, so who wouldn’t want to play football here? But all parties have to be happy with each other, so we will sit down now and see what happens.’
Casemiro is expected to depart Manchester United for Saudi Arabia despite captaining them in their recent pre-season friendly defeat to Rosenborg and thus, Amrabat’s signing will prove handy. Former England coach Fabio Capello compared him with combative former Italy midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.
The 27-year-old has the best years of his career ahead of him and although he may not be a regular fixture at Man United if a newer face arrives to replace Casemiro, he will be a valuable squad player.
The Red Devils are also in pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain and Uruguay star Manuel Ugarte, while most recently, they have even been linked with the acquisition of Palmeiras midfielder Richard Rios, who starred for Colombia in the recently concluded Copa America.
