Manchester United to offload winger Facundo Pellistri

Manchester United are set to offload Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri in the summer. After an impressive stint with the national team in Copa America, the player is close to joining Greek club Panathinaikos. Clubs like Corinthians, Flamengo, Besiktas, and Boca Juniors are also vying for his signature in the summer, per Caught Offside.

United are currently bolstering their squad for the upcoming season under manager Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils have already completed the signings of Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro in the summer. The club is also set to offload some familiar faces from Old Trafford in the summer to reinforce the squad ahead of the new season.

The young winger arrived in England following his stint with his boyhood club Penarol in 2020. The club has loaned the player to Spanish club Alaves for two campaigns and after his return, the player failed to impress the Dutch manager with his performances. Ten Hag featured the winger in 25 games for the Red Devils. Pellistri has also been capped 26 times by Uruguay. Raphael Varane, the ex-Man Utd centre-back singled out Pellistri and Garnacho for praise.

The 22-year-old started all games for the Uruguay national team in the Copa America 2024 under Marcelo Bielsa. He also thrived in the Uruguayan front line and helped the team to win third place in the campaign. Multiple clubs have been linked with the player in the summer and journalist Giannis Chorianopoulos has confirmed that Greek club Panathinaikos is front in the race to sign the player along with Corinthians, Flamengo, Besiktas, and Boca Juniors

Manchester United have only made two signings in the summer so far, but they have impressed their fans with those two. The Red Devils completed the signing of young forward Joshua Zirzkee and French starlet Leny Yoro in the summer.

The Dutch manager wants to reinforce the squad before the new campaign and he is currently searching for the players in the summer transfer market. The club also needs to find money in the summer to sign new faces and the Red Devils have already sold Mason Greenwood and Donny van de Beek in the summer.

With 12 months left in Pellistri’s contract, United could get a good amount by offloading the young winger in the summer.
