Manchester United to make an attempt for Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton

Manchester United has revived their transfer interest to sign English defender Jarrad Branthwaite from Everton. The Red Devils have already made two bids for the central defender, and the Premier League rivals rejected them by asking more for his services, per Metro.

The 22-year-old young defender has thrived at Goodison Park last season and became a mainstay at the club with his performances. He has saved his club from relegation by helping the team finish 15th in the points table, despite a points deduction.

He appeared in 41 games for the Toffees and contributed three goals across all competitions. The young English defender has emerged as one of the best in the English-top-flight league. His ability to read the game and his rock-solid presence in the back line has helped the club from conceding goals.

Manchester United has been attracted by his performance and made two bids earlier in the summer for the young defender. United’s first offer to sign the star was worth around £43m plus add-ons and their second rejected bid went up to around £50m plus add-ons. Also, the Red Devils have made it that they are unlikely to go any higher than £55m. But the Merseyside club have asked for £75m for his service.

United completed the £58.8m signing of France Under-21 defender Leny Yoro from Lille on Thursday but are still in the market for another centre-back.

United to capitalise on the opportunity

Everton are currently under significant financial pressure after the proposed takeover deal by Friedkin Group collapsed. United are set to capitalise on the situation to bring Branthwaite to Old Trafford. After the departure of Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala, the Red Devils need to find the backup option in the back line and they are gearing up to make a final bid for the English defender.

United manager Erik Ten Hag has to establish himself as a top coach for the Red Devils in the upcoming season and he is currently reinforcing the squad with some additions and offloading.

If the Red Devils could sign the English defender from Everton, then ten Hag can create a strong defensive line with the 22-year-old and the English defender also will be a perfect replacement option for Swedish defender Victor Lindelof, who might move from Old Trafford in the summer.
