PSG enforcer Manuel Ugarte is open to joining Manchester United
According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have agreed personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
The Red Devils are looking to continue their raid of Ligue 1 after announcing the signing of highly-rated defensive talent Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille on Thursday evening. Netherlands international Joshua Zirkzee has also arrived from Italian club Bologna, and Manchester United are now stepping up their efforts to land Manuel Ugarte.
Ugarte, who shares the same agent as Yoro—Jorge Mendes—is keen on a move to Manchester United even without their participation in Champions League football next season, Fabrizio Romano revealed on his official X account. Man United continue their talks with Paris Saint-Germain, with more clubs having enquired about the player.
“Manchester United have agreed on personal terms with Manuel Ugarte,” Romano tweeted.
“Contract terms discussed, player keen on moving to United even without Champions League football.
“Club-to-club talks continue with PSG, as more clubs also inquired.
“Same agent as Leny Yoro: Jorge Mendes.”
The Uruguay international only moved to PSG from Sporting CP last summer, and after a decent first part of the season, he became a peripheral figure since New Year as manager Luis Enrique preferred the likes of Vitinha, Warren Zaïre-Emery and Fabian Ruiz in midfield. Overall, he managed 37 appearances in his debut season in Paris, registering three assists.
Now with PSG looking to advance in negotiations with Benfica for Portuguese talent Joao Neves, Ugarte’s playing time would supposedly reduce more in the 2024/25 campaign. Perhaps, the 23-year-old is seeking a move away from Parc des Princes after just one season and is open to joining Erik ten Hag’s Man United.
Erik ten Hag and Co. are facing the prospect of needing to sell a midfielder before they can look to make Ugarte the latest acquisition. Scott McTominay and Casemiro appear as sellable assets, with the former attracting interest from Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur of late. Casemiro, meanwhile, has been on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs and could leave Old Trafford after a difficult second season in Manchester.
Ten Hag wants a specialist defensive midfielder to complement Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes in his first XI next season, and Ugarte would be a good fit. Tenacious, hardworking and energetic, Ugarte is mobile and can cover a lot more ground than the ageing Casemiro. He would be an upgrade on the Brazilian, whilst trimming the overall age of Ten Hag’s squad.

At 23, the South American also fits the criteria of signings INEOS are planning to make—young, hungry and talented with potential. Keeping that in mind, we must look to offload one of Casemiro or McTominay as quickly as possible to make room for Ugarte in the roster.
