West Ham United back out of the race to sign Manchester United star this summer

West Ham no longer interested in Manchester United’s Scott McTominay

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could very well do away with a number of first-team players this summer as he targets a major squad rehaul.

It had been reported that Scott McTominay may have been on the way out with West Ham United keen, but such reports have been quashed by reliable Hammers source Claret & Hugh.

The Scottish international was touted to move to London Stadium and West Ham did have interest in his signing, but that has subsided following David Moyes’ departure as head coach.

Julen Lopetegui’s arrival has meant that signing a midfielder is no longer the priority for the Londoners, thereby implying that any outside chance of McTominay joining them has been nullified.

Manchester United reportedly value the midfielder at £40 million, a price point which West Ham may not have been able to meet even if they had remained keen on the Scot’s transfer.

The Red Devils are looking to sign a central midfielder this summer but it is expected to be at Casemiro’s expense as he could be headed to Saudi Arabia after a lacklustre few years in England.

McTominay, unless a good offer arrives, might not be sold as he is a reliable option on the bench and adds much-needed squad depth for Ten Hag, who has dealt with numerous injury issues of late.

The midfielder does not have the most impeccable of qualities but it is hard to deny that he adds some vital aggression in the engine room and is also capable of making the difference in offence.

He scored 10 goals in all competitions last season, with majority of them coming from set-pieces. As such, there is no need for Manchester United to force him out.

A number of Turkish clubs are still keen on McTominay, though it remains to be seen if any of them is willing to meet his £40 million price tag and if the player himself is keen on departing Manchester United.
