Manchester United pull out of race for Portuguese wonderkid as they eye a move for South American star instead

Red Devils look beyond Neves

Manchester United have got their transfer window underway with the acquisition of Zirkzee from Bologna, and as they prepare to conclude his medical, the United faithful will be looking at other options to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.

The Red Devils have been linked with a highly anticipated move for Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his midfield options going into next season. The 19-year-old midfielder has been highly regarded as one of the upcoming wonderkids in Portuguese football following his break-out season with Benfica last year.

He is not only mobile, but also his high technical assurance soars his capabilities, which is why he has been linked with a move to Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool alongside United.

Missing out on Neves? Man Utd eye PSG’s Ugarte as alternative

While the Premier League giants look for a possible deal to bring the 2004-born midfielder to the English top-tier, French giants Parish-Saint-Germain have fortified their interest in landing the 19-year-old midfielder.

The French giants have launched a £75.8 million bid to acquire Joao Neves. This comes amid reports that Benfica are looking for £105 million to part ways with their star boy.

United are said to have moved on from the Portuguese international as they compound their interest in signing Manuel Ugarte from PSG, per O Jogo. Should the Ligue 1 side be successful in their pursuit of signing Neves, they would be willing to part ways with Ugarte, and the Manchester Reds want to take advantage of such a situation to land the Uruguayan for a bargain fee.
