Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Xavi Simons is courted by Manchester United
According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United are plotting a stunning swoop for Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Xavi Simons after a strong Euro 2024 campaign.
Xavi Simons impressed at Euro 2024 in Germany as the Netherlands reached the semi-finals but stumbled 2-1 to England. The youngster netted an early scorcher to give the Dutch team the lead, but the Three Lions prevailed through goals from Harry Kane and Ollie Watkins.
Prior to the European Championships, where he recorded three assists and a goal, the 21-year-old spent the last season on loan at RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain. Simons was one of the brightest players in the Bundesliga, racking up 10 goals and 15 assists in 43 appearances across all competitions for RB Leipzig. This has seen him attract interest from Manchester United and Bayern Munich, while Leipzig aims to re-sign the playmaker.
As per the aforementioned report, PSG are expected to loan the Netherlands out for the second successive summer with an obligation clause. This tactic is partly because of a sizeable sell-on clause owed to his former employers PSV Eindhoven, which expires at the end of the year.
If PSG boss Luis Enrique finds the 21-year-old surplus to requirements and fails to provide him with regular game time, he is likely to seek a move away from the French capital perhaps permanently this time around. Man United are seemingly keen on signing Simons on loan with an obligation to purchase, which the report adds could be in the region of £70m.
INEOS are planning a Dutch revolution at Old Trafford this summer, with the club in talks to sign Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt after wrapping up a deal for Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee. Simons is also from the Dutch contingent, and given his age, potential and profile, he fits INEOS’ criteria for signings.

A loan deal for the PSG attacker would be beneficial for the Red Devils as it would allow them to bring in a top-quality player without affecting their financial situation when it comes to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Simons can operate as a winger on both flank or in the No.10 role, so could provide depth in the multiple positions for Erik ten Hag’s side especially when they have to play in four competitions in the 2024/25 campaign.
With that in mind, INEOS must take concrete steps to sign the Dutchman on loan from PSG given that he is Bayern’s top priority.
