Manchester United have reached a broad agreement with Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee to bolster their attack during the summer window
Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee has reached a broad agreement with Manchester United as they are eager to bolster their attack. Zirkzee is currently representing Netherlands in the Euro 2024 tournament and they play England in the competition’s semi-final on Wednesday.
United need to bolster their attacking department after most of their attackers struggled with form last season, hurting their campaign. Prolific forward from the 2022-23 season, Marcus Rashford failed to contribute last season and struggled with poor consistency and low confidence.
The Red Devils have lost Anthony Martial as a free agent and Mason Greenwood’s future at the club remains uncertain. Last summer’s signing, Rasmus Hojlund showcased promising performances but his talent is still too raw to be a first-team regular.
According to Sky Sports, United are ready to activate Zirkzee’s £34m release clause and rectify their attacking department this summer. The Red Devils have already reached a broad agreement with the player after a positive extensive negotiation with his representatives.
Player analysis: Joshua Zirkzee
Standing at 1.93 metres, Zirkzee is an imposing figure in the frontline while he uses his strength and athleticism brilliantly. The Dutch international is a handful for the opposition defence to deal with, during both aerial and ground duel situations.
ZIrkzee uses his body well in close quarters, applying his agility, close control and dribbling skills to glide past players. The 23-year-old provides fantastic hold-up play and uses his body well to make surprising half-turns to instigate moves in attack.
Dutch legend Marco Van Basten has huge hope for the 23-year-old’s future in the game. Here is what he had to say – “He is young and promising, but still very much at the beginning. We have to wait and see how strong he is. I can’t say that he will become great but he certainly has quality.”
Manchester United have green light from both Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt to join the club.
