Manchester United told Spanish star is susceptible to injury problems in the future

Can Reguilon replicate Brentford success at Old Trafford?

Manchester United have been looking to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon in the ongoing summer transfer window. However, injury concerns are afloat, which can restrict a possible move.

The Red Devils have been linked with a Reguilon reunion as they continue to mend the left-back problems six months after the Spaniard left Old Trafford. The Manchester Reds have suffered deeply in the last season owing to a lack of defensive depth in the full-back role on the left flank. First-choice LB Luke Shaw suffered an injury-prone season where he has been out of the treatment room consistently. Moreover, Tyrell Malacia, the backup to Shaw, has been on the sidelines all season, leaving the team scrambling for reliable options in that position.

Manchester United eyeing Reguilon reunion despite injury concerns

Man United are targeting Tottenham defender Sergio Reguilon.

Erik ten Hag would not want to burn his hands twice and would want to have a new face in the position to increase depth, ensuring that the club does not suffer because of injuries yet again. However, there could still be a bit of concern if they go on to acquire Sergio Reguilon in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Injury expert Dr. Rajpal Brar suggests that the North Londoners defender could have an injury concern around the corner, despite having no fitness concerns for a while. He suggests that the lack of game time under the Spaniard’s belt could prove concerning and that he has the possibility of having his own spells on the sidelines. Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, the injury expert said:

“He has not had injuries, so that’s definitely a boost for any side looking to sign him. On the flip side, he’s not featured regularly, so his match fitness has been low throughout the last season. Typically, not having consistent matches will dent fitness and potentially increase the risk of overload and thus injuries, but the extent is difficult to discern.“

A move for the Spurs right-back can work well for Manchester United, especially considering how impressive he was during the second half of the season for Brentford. He has spent some time at Old Trafford before, and it should not be a problem for him to settle into the squad and make himself an integral part of their defensive lineup once again.
