Fulham leading the race for Manchester United star Scott McTominay

According to Manchester World, Fulham are leading the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay this summer.

The much-maligned United academy graduate came up with crucial goals for Erik ten Hag last season, and shone despite an underwhelming campaign from the team. While he can be a difference-maker on a good day, his limitations prevent us from taking the next step in our evolution.

Fulham, alongside the likes of West Ham United, Newcastle United, and Southampton, are interested in the Scotland international who recently bowed out of Euro 2024 in the group stages. The Cottagers are planning for a midfield rebuild keeping in mind that they are likely to lose João Palhinha this summer.

McTominay’s current £60k-a-week contract at Man United is set to run until the end of the 2024/25 season.

Only for the right price…

Scott McTominay is one of those players that, despite not actually being good enough to start 50 or so games for a big club like United every season, is a solid presence in the dressing room and capable of occupying multiple positions on the pitch in a sporadic capacity, throughout the season.

Selling McTominay may generate pure profit for United given he’s an academy graduate, but unless he makes a fuss about wanting more regular time or someone offers silly money, United should prefer to keep him in the squad.

For the majority of his career, McTominay has been mis-profiled as a defensive player when he’s always been an attacking midfielder good in transitions and excellent with his industry off the ball. If he does leave, one hopes that he goes to play for a club whose coach at least understands his strengths.
