Manchester United are willing to pay agent fee to land Joshua Zirkzee
The Standard has reported that, according to Corriere di Bologna, Man United are willing to pay the £12m fee for the agent of Joshua Zirkzee, Kia Joorabchian, in order to bring the Dutchman to Old Trafford.
Man United’s new sporting owners, INEOS, have secured Dan Ashworth as their sporting director after months of deliberation with Newcastle United.
Both Ashworth and United are keen to bring Zirkzee to the club, who has also been linked with moves to AC Milan and Bayern Munich after impressing for Bologna in their Champions League-qualifying 2023/24 Serie A campaign.
Milan have thus far refused to entertain the idea of paying Joorabchian the reported fee, paving the way for United to make a play.
The mind boggles
From Zirkzee’s own admission and Erik ten Hag‘s preferred styles of play demonstrated in two years at United, it is clear that the two aren’t a match on paper.
Therefore, United’s insistence on going after Zirkzee makes little sense as far as Ten Hag is concerned.
But it’s important to keep in mind that, despite in talks of getting a new contract, Ten Hag is being kept at Old Trafford because INEOS have to, not because they want to. The 2024/25 season will still be a transitional one, and Ten Hag won’t be given much quarter if things continue in the league the same way they did in the season gone by.

The more important thing for United here is that Dan Ashworth has finally arrived, so work can officially begin. To that end, bringing Zirkzee may serve a long-term purpose, for a future that does not contain Ten Hag at United.
