Bernardo Silva calls Bruno Fernandes “Penandes”, sets off hilarious reaction
Bernardo Silva jokingly called Bruno Fernandes “Bruno Penandes” on Instagram after Portugal’s win over Slovenia in their Round of 16 tie in UEFA Euro 2024.
Of course, he meant that in a good way and there were a few chuckles waiting on the other side of a terrible Slovenian storm as Portugal crawled past the finishing line after failing to break down the Slovenia defence in over 120 minutes of regular plus extra time.
Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa was the hero of the shootout as he saved all three of Slovenia’s kicks as Cristiano Ronaldo and Bernardo Silva slotted home their penalties alongside Bruno Fernandes.
Silva made the following post after the game:
To which he also received affirmations from two of his teammates, Rúben Dias and João Cancelo.
Portugal now face France on Friday night for the Euro 2024 quarter-final tie.
Good thing he’s good at penalties
Goes without saying, of course, that Bernardo Silva would be glad he his teammates managed to get out of that match with at least the result.
Otherwise, not only did the team struggle to create from open play, they were also effectively handicapped in dead-ball situations by Ronaldo’s obstinacy to keep taking them from any and all angles despite, in all honesty, having been not very good at taking them for quite a while now.
