Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire, along with his wife Fern Maguire (née Hawkins), recently put out stories on Instagram to commemorate their second marriage anniversary.

The couple got married at the Chateau de Varennes in South Burgundy, France, on June 25 2022, after seven years of dating. They have two daughters.

Mrs Maguire first put up this story on her Instagram:

The England international reciprocated the gesture with this story:

The marriage anniversary celebrations arrive for the Maguire family amidst some much-needed off-season rest for the 31-year-old, who was only left out by Gareth Southgate from England’s UEFA Euro 2024 squad after failing to recover from the calf injury he sustained in April.

The 2023/24 season was one of redemption for the former United captain. After being much maligned over the previous two seasons, and having refused to move to West Ham United last summer, Maguire gained back quite a few plaudits for his performances as he returned to the starting line-up owing to the Red Devils’ injury problems.

Maguire’s current £190,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford is set to run until the end of the 2024/25 season, with talks of neither a move-on nor a contract renewal having surfaced at the time of writing.

UEFA Euro 2024 miss brings Maguire much-needed rest

Euro 2024 could very well have been Maguire’s last-ever major international tournament, so it’s understandable why he must be gutted not to be in Germany right now.

But, it is equally true that this break offers him time to properly recover from his injuries and fatigue ahead of next season as he enters into the final years of his prime as a player.

Maguire, much like many other footballers, has been struggling with the never-ending footballing calendar that has seen him play through injuries and miss out on major games before as well, not that he would ever admit this to be a struggle, of course.

But the rest arrives for him at just the right time. And with the 2026 World Cup less than two years away, one must not count out one last dance for the 63-cap England international.
