Man United back in the market for Álvaro Morata
According to Sabah, as reported by Sport Witness, Manchester United are keen on a surprise move for Atlético Madrid forward Álvaro Morata this summer.
United had almost secured a move for the Spain international in the summer of 2017 before he went to Chelsea for an outlandish fee of £70 million and had an underwhelming spell, while United signed Romelu Lukaku instead.
Now 31, Morata has been delivering consistent performances for Atleti over the past couple of seasons and is available this summer for a bargain price.
The €12m price tag is attracting interest from all over Europe with the likes of AS Roma, his former side Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and Fenerbahçe (managed by José Mourinho, who wanted him at United back in 2017) also interested in Morata alongside United.
Currently in Germany for UEFA Euro 2024, Morata’s current Atleti contract, fetching him €13.54 million per year and set to run until June 2026, is expected to be the defining aspect of where he ends up ahead of next season.
Morata makes sense the more you think about it
Much maligned for always being offside and not being as consistent with goals as one would want from their forward, Morata brings a lot to the table that United would want in their striker to pair with Rasmus Højlund.
Morata is experienced, good at bringing other players into the game with his link-up, and a stable presence in the dressing room, likely to accept the role United would be offering him.

His wage demands might prove to be a bump in the road, but if United can reach a reasonable agreement on the front, given the release clause, this is a move United should pursue.
