Manchester United are eyeing a move for 22-year-old Euro star who has drawn comparisons with Nesta
As reported by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United are showing interest in Euro star, Riccardo Calafiori. The 22-year-old has been stellar for Bologna this past season and was key in their bid for Champions League football.
Although the Italian star primarily plays as a defender he has become known for joining the attack and getting in threatening positions for his team. Calafiori has taken the footballing world by storm this past summer and a lot of teams are keen on signing him.
The 22-year-old made 37 appearances for Bologna last season spending his time playing as a CB. Despite playing as a defender Calafiori proved to be a threat in the final third of the pitch and ended up recording two goals and five assists.
At the age of 22, The Italian defender has become an undisputed starter for his country and club. Forbes has compared Calafiori to Italian legend, Alessandro Nesta, and at first glance, one may even mistake the two for each other.
It is very high praise for Calafioro to be compared to a legend like Nesta. However, with the way he’s been improving throughout his career, the 22-year-old might even step into Nesta’s shoes in a few years.
Calafiori currently has three years left on his deal with Bologna. When you combine his contract with his insanely high ceiling it becomes safe to say that the Italian side will be looking for a hefty transfer fee for a deal surrounding their 22-year-old star.
