As reported by Ben Jacobs, West Ham United have failed with to land a deal for Manchester United’s defensive target, Max Kilman despite making a £25m bid. The Red Devils have been linked with Kilman for a minute now.

Last season, the 27-year-old made 44 appearances for Wolves playing primarily as a CB. Kilman’s presence in defence cannot be understated and he is a big reason behind whatever little success the team has found.

Manchester United need to completely refresh their defensive line this summer to avoid a repeat of last season when they were struggling to field even two fit CBs. Kilman would definitely be an amazing piece to spice things up.

Ben Jacobs mentioned that before West Ham Napoli’s bid of £30m was also rejected by the Wolves. It is being said that the team values their captain highly and will not be looking to part ways for any cheap bid.

Jacobs also mentioned that Wolves value Kilman at around £45m. While the sum is surely affordable for Manchester United they have to consider a few things. First off, Kilman won’t be the only defender they’re signing this summer.

Moreover, apart from a defender, the team will also need to make signings for their midfield and their attacking line. So, spending £45m on a defender who might start to decline in a few years might not be the best idea.

A pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Kilman would be something to watch.

Although West Ham failed, Manchester United might be able to get a fair deal for Kilman. They should only bring him in if the demands are fair.
