Manchester United part owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe could sell shares following UEFA’s interference in the transfer of ex-Barcelona star
As reported by Football Insider, Manchester United part owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to sell his shares in OGC Nice due to UEFA. A few days ago it was revealed by Fabrizio Romano, that the Red Devils were in advance talks for OGC Nice defender, Jean-Clair Todibo.
The former Barcelona star has had a stellar season for the French side and has garnered interest from multiple European clubs. Both Nice and United were on the table and a deal might’ve been imminent but it was not to be.
Because Sir Jim Ratcliffe has a stake in both Manchester United and OGC Nice and they will both be playing the same European competition next season, UEFA rules have made it next to impossible for the Red Devils to sign Todibo.
Just recently, UEFA allowed Manchester United and OGC Nice to participate in the same European competition. Now, they have blocked a transfer between the two teams for the same reason, which is a bit disappointing, to say the least.
It is not yet clear whether Sir Jim Ratcliffe plans on retaining some kind of ownership over OGC Nice. The INEOS chief has been the owner of the club since 2019 now and could find it hard to sell his stake for a profit.
Ever since Ratcliffe took over the French side, they have failed to finish higher than fifth in their league. The last time OGC Nice made a Champions League appearance was back in the 2017/18 season.
