Manchester United legend leaves Gary Neville in splits with England joke
Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney was seated alongside Gary Neville while answering questions from the audience of The Overlap. Rooney was asked who from the current England team has the quality to make England’s golden generation team.
England’s generational team had players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Scholes, and Frank Lampard. To be considered good enough in their company is a compliment off the top shelf.
However, the answer Rooney gave while speaking to The Overlap, left Gary Neville in splits. The former Red Devil believes only Kyle Walker is good enough to be on the team. Let’s have a look.
“I think there’s only one of the defence which would be Kyle Walker
“Sorry”
Rooney instantly turned to Gary Neville and apologized. For those of you who don’t know, Neville was the RB for the Golden Generation England team. While it is clear that the former Red Devil couldn’t compete with Walker in terms of pace, one could argue that Neville was more defensively sound.
Moreover, the things Gary Neville achieved during his time with Manchester United speak for themself. Rooney also mentioned that players like Phil Foden, Harry Kane, and Jude Bellingham could replace a couple of the players upfront in England’s golden generation.
A bit humble coming from Rooney who is perhaps the greatest striker the Premier League has ever seen. Regardless of who can be on the golden generation squad, the current England team needs to get their heads in the game.
