Man United are definitely interested in Michael Olise, says Dharmesh Seth

In a recent appearance on Sky Sports, football expert Dharmesh Seth discussed, among other things, Man United’s pursuit of a wide forward.

He had this explanation as to why United were looking to bring players in that position, later confirming that Michael Olise was one of the players they were sincerely interested in:

“We think, this summer, [Man] United will only consider permanent deals for Jadon Sancho. It looks like they want to just start on a clean footing and clean slate, so they’ve decided Jadon Sancho isn’t going to be a part of United’s future, let’s sort that out in this summer.

“And, if that deal can come to fruition, be it at Dortmund or Juventus or another club, United are looking at that position with other targets.

“Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, there’s a release clause and Manchester United are definitely interested and internally they are discussing whether to make that interest formal, and another player they are looking at is PSG’s Xavi Simons, so there’s another one to look out for.”

With Erik ten Hag staying at the club, Jadon Sancho’s time at Old Trafford is all but over. United have already decided to cut their losses and let him go this summer.

Michael Olise, despite an injury-riddled season, shone for Palace in 2023/24 and has continued attracting interest, despite Palace offering him a new deal. He has also reportedly already agreed personal terms with Chelsea.

Xavi Simons, on the other hand, has just completed his season-long loan at RB Leipzig and will return to PSG ahead of next season, though he currently remains in Germany as part of the Netherlands national team participating in UEFA Euro 2024.

United should not pursue Olise

Olise had agreed terms with Chelsea last season before he extended his contract with Palace with a higher release clause. This season, again he has agreed personal terms with Chelsea and looks less likely to remain at Selhurst Park.

Clearly, this is a guy keen on a Stamford Bridge move, and United are already delayed in their plans for next season, having only recently decided to stick with Erik ten Hag.

With Sancho leaving, Marcus Rashford’s future in doubt, and a form-less Antony also expected to be shipped out, it makes sense for United to look for wide attacking players, but they should look elsewhere.

And to that end, exploring a move for Xavi Simons is a good start. He will not come cheap, however, so United need to add more players to their shortlist.
