World Cup runner-up awaits Manchester United approach as his future remains unclear

Adrien Rabiot waiting for Manchester United approach

Manchester United are expected to have a busy transfer window which could see a number of fresh faces enter through the Old Trafford door alongside a fair few exits too.

Erik ten Hag’s side visibly requires an injection of newer and more ambitious names after his team secured its worst-ever Premier League finish last season, ending the campaign in 8th place.

A midfielder’s signing is on the cards with long-term target Adrien Rabiot once again emerging as a possible recruit for Manchester United ahead of his impending free agency.

The French midfielder’s contract in Turin expires at the end of June and he has yet to open renewal talks with Juventus, with Manchester Evening News (citing Tuttosport) claiming that he is awaiting an approach from the Red Devils before deciding his future.

Rabiot was closely linked with a switch to the Premier League giants when he left Paris Saint-Germain back in 2019 but the transfer never materialised as Juventus offered him a better sporting project.

The tables may have turned this time, however, as he would be a solid free signing for a financially-chained Man United although they have a budding young squad.

Rabiot would be exactly what United are after in central midfield and his salary is unlikely to be an issue if Casemiro leaves the club in accordance with wide expectation.

His experience will definitely hold him in good stead but his passing and dribbling abilities are expected to be a significant upgrade over Casemiro’s, whereas Rabiot is sound defensively as well.

The player is currently focused on completing the Euro 2024 in the best possible way with France and a decision on his club career may have to wait until July even though his contract expires earlier.

Juventus are understandably fearful that Rabiot will leave for Man United, but that’s the least of the Red Devils’ concerns as they can get their hands on a terrific midfielder for free.
