Outgoing Manchester United ace Raphaël Varane shares photo with compatriot judoka Teddy Riner
French centre-back and soon-to-be former Manchester United star Raphaël Varane recently shared an image of him alongside compatriot and judo champion Teddy Riner.
The 31-year-old former France international put up a story on Instagram which depicted him enjoying his off-time alongside the 11-time judo world champion.
Varane’s departure from Manchester United was confirmed last month.
Varane capped off his trying three-year United stint by picking up an FA Cup medal in his last game as a Red Devil.
His ending contract at Old Trafford fetched him £340k per week in the 2023/24 season.
Currently on holiday, Varane is yet to announce his next destination.
Arriving from Real Madrid on the back of a £41m move, Varane made 95 appearances for United across all competitions during his time at Old Trafford, scoring twice and assisting once.
Varane can still do a job in Europe
Despite a relatively underwhelming time at United, it’s safe to say Varane’s still got it, if his last appearance for the club in the FA Cup final is anything to go by.
What that game showed us is that the veteran Frenchman is still good enough to operate at the top level if put into the right setup, surrounded by the right players, and in an environment conducive to success.
There is interest from Saudi Arabia, and Varane has always wanted to return to Lens before retiring as well, but it would be wise to not rule out a move to another big European club in the meantime, given he’s only 31.
