Knew Cristiano Ronaldo would become the best ever after watching his bicycle kick against Roma, admits Louis Saha
Louis Saha has recently revealed on social media the moment he realised Cristiano Ronaldo would become the best player in the world.
Taking to Instagram, Saha put up a story reposting a reel from the official Man United channel which showcased a bicycle from the Portuguese icon.
Highlighting this moment, the former French forward said it was at this point he realised Ronaldo’s true potential.
The attempt came about during Man United’s quarter-final tie against Serie A giants Roma in the 2007/08 season of the UEFA Champions League, which the Red Devils ultimately went on to win.
Ronaldo’s performances in the 2007/08 season also won him his first ever Ballon d’Or in 2008.
Saha retired from the game more than a decade ago, but Cristiano is still going strong at 39 and is currently in Germany with the Portugal national team participating in UEFA Euro 2024.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing
When people talk about successful people, especially in their early days, it’s very easy to say things like “Oh, I knew this person was destined for greatness,” once the said person has achieved said perceived greatness.
The truth, however, is that there are millions of those who fail for every person who succeeds after showing early signs. It’s true in life, and so it’s true in football.

In this case, however, we can give Saha the benefit of the doubt despite stating the obvious. The 2007/08 season was Ronaldo’s proper “I have arrived” moment. Regardless to say, he has very much gone on to do exactly what Saha thought at that time.
