Man United eye Oumar Solet in the midst of strong competition

Manchester United are considering signing Oumar Solet from RB Salzburg this summer but will face considerable competition from several European clubs, according to RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins.

Solet has enjoyed a few productive years with RB Salzburg and wants to pursue newer beginnings this summer to progress in his career as a promising defender.

His contract with the Austrian side expires at the end of 2024/25 (Transfermarkt) and given his desire to leave, Salzburg are obliged to sell him this year to avoid losing him as a free agent next summer.

There is particular interest in Solet’s signing from Germany, with the likes of Bayern Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart closely monitoring his future.

United are also in the race and it is believed that a €12 to €15 million transfer fee will lead to Solet’s signing.

The Red Devils will see long-term utility in Solet and he is also a cheap option, which means they can easily afford him despite having a limited transfer budget.

Man United will not have an easy path in the race to sign Oumar Solet.

However, the Bundesliga sides could provide the 24-year-old with the opportunity to play regular football which may be a more appealing proposition than joining Manchester United, where he is most likely to be a backup.

RB Leipzig’s name has not been mentioned so far, but RB Salzburg’s sister club, also owned by Red Bull, could be another attractive destination for Solet. The Bundesliga side has snapped on several players from Salzburg of late.

Solet’s transfer will likely be sorted sooner rather than later as he is not playing at Euros 2024 and United will be in the race to sign him, even though it may not be as clear favourites.
