Man United plot Xavi Simons’ signing from PSG
L’Equipe (via Manchester Evening News) has reported that Manchester United have contacted Paris Saint-Germain regarding a transfer for dynamic winger Xavi Simons this summer.
The Red Devils wish to add competition for Marcus Rashford after he had the poorest season of his senior career so far and as a result, missed out on a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad.
Simons is seen as an attractive target following his productive year on loan with RB Leipzig. He is plotting a PSG exit to find regular minutes and continuity elsewhere.
Although the Parisians are only thinking about a loan move for the youngster, it is not ruled out that they permanently sell him in the event of a convincing enough transfer fee.
There is also interest in the Dutch international from Arsenal and Manchester City, although United would hold high hopes at completing the transfer due to the role they can offer to the player.
Man United want to bring Simons in due to his superb versatility, which has enabled him to play on both flanks, in addition to the attacking tip of the midfield.
With Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood expected to depart and Rashford’s form also being questionable, Simons would add much-needed depth and quality in attack.
He can also be a long-term replacement for Bruno Fernandes in midfield and at present, provide competition to Mason Mount after he has undergone a rough season since joining United from Chelsea.
Simons possesses brilliant playmaking prowess, which is ratified by the 15 assists he provided last campaign while he is also a threat in front of goal with 10 strikes to his name.
The 21-year-old will surely be tempted to leave PSG for United, where he is likely to be assured of regular minutes right from the word go.
However, it is yet to be determined how importantly the Premier League giants see his acquisition, with their sights also set on bringing in a centre-back, central midfielder and forward.
