Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Xavi Simons is on the radar of Manchester United
According to a report from French publication L’Equipe, Manchester United have entered the race for highly-rated Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Xavi Simons.
It is expected to be a busy summer for the Red Devils as INEOS look to reshape the squad that endured the worst-ever finish in the Premier League last season. The club, after a meticulous end-of-season review, have decided to stick with Erik ten Hag and offer him a new contract.
Erik ten Hag is looking to strengthen the spine of his side, with central defence and midfield the pivotal areas among his top priorities in this transfer window. The Dutchman and Manchester United may also be forced to look out for an attacking midfielder owing to uncertainty over skipper Bruno Fernandes’ long-term future amid interest from Saudi Arabia.
L’Equipe reports Manchester United have contacted Paris Saint-Germain in their bid to sign Xavi Simons this summer. Simmons, 21, returned to Paris Saint-Germain from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, but spent the last season on loan at RB Leipzig. The Dutch playmaker enjoyed a prolific spell with RB Leipzig, scoring 10 goals and supplying an eye-catching 15 assists during the 2023/24 campaign.
However, the talented youngster’s future at PSG is once again up in the air. L’Equipe claims Simons doesn’t want to return to the French capital and has been valued at around £51million by the Ligue 1 champions. Another new loan beckons for the 21-year-old, possibly to RB Leipzig, although nothing has yet been decided about what might come next.
The report adds Arsenal, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have all expressed their interest in signing Simmons, who is contracted to PSG until the summer of 2027. This means Manchester United faces huge competition to potentially sign Simons.
The 21-year-old has been included in the Netherlands squad for the 2024 European Championships following a stellar campaign in the Eredivisie. He played 62 minutes in his nation’s group-stage opener on Sunday as the Oranje beat Poland 2-1 at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg.
