Manchester United undertake measures for 'world-class' facility with £50m set aside

Jim Ratcliffe has pledged to revamp Carrington training facilities

With Manchester United set to commence a £50 million renovation of their men’s first-team facilities at the Carrington training complex next week, Jim Ratcliffe believes this upgrade will elevate it to a “world-class” standard and enhance performance. Led by acclaimed architect Norman Foster, the project begins on Monday and is anticipated to span the entirety of the upcoming season. Ratcliffe said:

“We want to create a world-class environment for our teams to win. When we conducted a thorough review of the Carrington training facilities and met with our men’s first-team players, it was clear the standards had fallen below some of our peers. This project will ensure Manchester United’s training ground is once more renovated to the highest standards. Lord Foster, a fellow Mancunian, has brought some great inspiration to the design, in conjunction with the Manchester United team and we look forward to seeing the improvement to the facilities but most importantly on the pitch”

The club said the initial focus will centre on enhancing the gym, medical, nutrition, and recovery areas, with a design approach aimed at fostering greater collaboration and innovation among players and staff. Temporary adjustments will be implemented across the rest of the Carrington site to ensure continued operational success for all teams next season.

This new phase of development at Carrington follows the debut of the £10 million cutting-edge women’s and academy building last summer. This brings the total investment in creating a fully integrated facility for the entire football department to over £60 million over the past two years.

The primary goals include optimizing player performance through upgraded gym, medical, nutrition, and recovery facilities. Additionally, the redesign aims to enhance collaboration among players and staff by creating more open and innovative spaces. Integration is another key focus, with recent investments in facilities for women’s and academy teams being incorporated into the main complex. This holistic approach aims to streamline operations and promote consistency in training standards across all levels of the club.
