Casemiro unhappy with Manchester United’s 2023 summer transfer business
According to The Athletic, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United midfielder Casemiro was left frustrated last season by United’s summer signings.
Rather, he was left frustrated by whom United did not sign, in particular Harry Kane, who ultimately left Spurs for Bayern Munich. In the season gone by, both United and Casemiro turned out to be miles off from their performances of the 2022/23 season.
The veteran Brazil international’s performances have been criticised by pundits and fans alike, many considering him to already be “past it”.
There have also been reports in recent weeks linking the 32-year-old with a move away from Old Trafford, with Saudi Arabia taking a particular interest in acquiring his services.
Casemiro’s £350k-a-week contract at United, set to run until June 2026, makes him the Red Devils’ highest-paid player currently.
An easy misunderstanding
Casemiro may have misunderstood United’s desperation as ambition when they spent £70 million on him to bring him from Real Madrid two seasons ago.
His was not a move United had planned; his was a move United hastened to make after losing to Brighton and Brentford with an aggregate score line of 6-1.
Let’s make it absolutely clear: United made no mistake in not signing Harry Kane. Bayern had to pay €100 million for the soon-to-be 31-year-old; there’s no way Daniel Levy would have let Kane go to a rival Premier League club for a fee comparable to that one, at which point it becomes ludicrous to spend money on a veteran, however good said player might be.

And, if Bayern’s recent season has taught us anything, it’s that having the shiniest of toys is not what gets you success in a team sport; it’s the collective. And that’s what United need to keep in mind going forward.
