Manchester United are ready to outbid Bayern Munich for Joao Palhinha
Manchester United are set to offer competition to Bayern Munich for Joao Palhinha’s transfer from Fulham with Erik ten Hag insisting on a defensive midfielder’s signing if Casemiro departs, according to TeamTALK.
Palhinha has been a target for Bayern Munich for the better part of a year and narrowly missed out on a deadline day transfer to the Allianz Arena last summer despite all parties agreeing to the switch.
Though it was on Thomas Tuchel’s say-so that the Bavarian outfit were ready to invest in Palhinha, their interest has not cooled despite Vincent Kompany’s appointment in the hot seat.
With that said, they have already had two bids rejected for Palhinha recently, the second one worth £38 million, as Fulham await the fulfillment of their £60 million evaluation for the Portuguese.
Manchester United are willing to match the 28-year-old’s asking price and would be in a better position to do so if indeed Casemiro departs Old Trafford sooner rather than later.
Palhinha is seen as the most suitable option to play as the deep-lying midfielder at the club due to his enviable playmaking abilities as well. However, United may be his second priority.
The 28-year-old is in preference of joining Bayern Munich if he departs west London, having already agreed to personal terms with the Bundesliga giants since a few months.
Bayern have monitored him for a long time and admittedly, have a more stable and promising sporting project than Manchester United’s, which might be the turning point in Palhinha’s decision.
Moreover, Kompany’s men will compete in the Champions League and will once again be a title challenger for the Bundesliga, while the same cannot be said about United in the Premier League.

A transfer for the defensive midfielder may have to wait until Portugal’s participation ends at Euro 2024 and Manchester United will hope they are able to sort out Casemiro’s future until then to stand a better chance at landing Palhinha.
