Manchester United are about to make minor changes to Erik ten Hag and his position as the first-team coach if they are able to tie him down to a contract extension in the near future.

The manager’s situation has drastically turned as he was initially expected to be relieved of his duties but is now set to stay at the club while potentially committing to fresher terms as well.

ESPN has reported that the Red Devils intend on ringing in two important changes to Ten Hag’s new contract which would necessarily implicate that his role becomes more coaching-centric.

Manchester United will discuss a change in role with Erik ten Hag.

United are expected to reduce his say in transfer activity after a number of expensive signings from the Dutchman have failed to produce the desired results in a two-year span.

Andre Onana, Antony and Lisandro Martinez were all formerly players under Ten Hag at Ajax Amsterdam and he spent close to £150 million on acquiring the trio.

He has been focusing on creating a Dutch connection at Old Trafford having also been wanting to unite with compatriots Brian Brobbey, Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt

The club is going to cool interest in the players that were specifically targeted by Ten Hag, with the responsibility set to be exclusively under the board which will imminently be led by Dan Ashworth.

United are expected to follow the model of numerous other clubs, where the majority of the signings are made on the higher authority’s discretion with the manager responsible for solely employing the players to the best of their abilities.

Such an approach has helped clubs have the leeway of creating a distinct and sustainable style of play regardless of the name in the dugout.

Manchester United are also going to make changes to the backroom staff and it is expected that Benni McCarthy’s contract will not be renewed in spite of the Dutchman’s desire to retain the South African.

The club will decide shortly who the next assistant coach will be, alongside Mitchell van der Gaarg and Steve McClaren.

With INEOS likely to be the instigators of a changed approach concerning arrivals at the club, it is undoubtedly a good sign for the Red Devils after they were mismanaged for a very long time.
