Teddy Sheringham believes Mauricio Pochettino is ideal for the Manchester United job
Teddy Sheringham has recently come out and backed Mauricio Pochettino as the ideal successor to Erik ten Hag at Man United.
Speaking to Genting Casino, the former United and Spurs striker had this to say for if and when the INEOS sporting ownership of the club decided to move on from Ten Hag:
“Out of all the candidates to replace Erik ten Hag, I think Mauricio Pochettino stands out, I think he has all the credentials to manage Manchester United.
“I think he’s been around the block and is a good age, I like the way he gets his teams playing football and I think he would be perfect for United if Ten Hag is to leave the club.
“I think he was phenomenal at Tottenham and he makes players better when they are coached under him, he doesn’t just buy to fit his plan, he makes them better. In the system that he plays, his teams have the ball most of the time, it’s not all about chasing after it.
“He takes the game to the opposition and that’s exactly how Manchester United want to play. He may have had his eye on the job for a while, but every manger in the world would take the United job.
“It’s a huge job, a huge football club and I think that if they are looking for a new manager then Pochettino would be the man.”

The INEOS group has not yet made it public as to what it intends to do regarding the managerial situation at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag was expected to get the sack ahead of the FA Cup final regardless of the result. After United lifted the trophy, the ownership stated it would evaluate the season in its entirety before reaching a decision.
While the verdict is expected to be made public soon, nothing has been revealed as of yet.
Mauricio Pochettino is not ideal for Man United job
There are two key reasons as to why Pochettino is not as ideal a pick for United as one would initially think.
Firstly, he is a “long-term” project manager. As vapid as that designation can be, it still means these managers are picked up in hopes of being given a bit of time to mould the team as they see fit. United are not in a position to offer any manager a long-term promise from the get-go given they currently do not have a sporting director in place; that is the first thing they need to sort out.
Secondly, Pochettino was dismissed from Chelsea reportedly because he wanted more control in matters of player acquisitions. Even if United were to have all their ducks in a row, this is something they would likely not want, if their directorial moves thus far and verbal promises are anything to go by.
