Patrick Vieira takes a jovial jab at Manchester United legend Roy Keane
The latest edition of the Stick to Football podcast from The Overlap had a very special guest in Patrick Vieira. In the more-than-one-hour interaction that contained a lot of subjects, there was one towards the end that left everyone in splits.
This came about when the group were having a Patrick-Vieira-Roy-Keane-themed quiz, and it was the discussion on international caps during which the former France international took his chance.
Gary Neville: “Who had more international caps: Patrick or Roy?”
Vieira: “That’s the easy one.”
Keane [interjecting]: “He qualified for more tournaments, you see…”
Vieira: “And I never walked out of international duty.”
[Everyone bursts into laughter. Even Keane lets out a smile.]
The podcast made for a light-hearted listen as it brought back two former footballers that made for one of the fiercest individual rivalries in football history.
Vieira and Keane still make for good content
Vieira and Keane were box office on the pitch back in the day.
Even now, every time they come together for a show like this or during punditry, the tension is palpable on the outside, but the two are always able to keep things friendly and affable with light-hearted banter that surfaces over what has always been there between the two: a profound sense of respect for each other.

And now, Vieira might say that he might have ended the debate between him and Keane with the jobs he is getting in his managerial career. The Irishman, on the other hand, might flash his Championship medal from 2007 and ask his French counterpart to produce his coaching honours.
