Manchester United still in for João Palhinha, claims Kaveh Solhekol
According to Sky Sports football expert Kaveh Solhekol, Man United are still in the hunt for the signature of João Palhinha.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a move away from Fulham ever since arriving at Craven Cottage two summers ago from Sporting. On X (formerly Twitter), Solhekol recently had this to say on Palhinha’s situation:
A move to Bayern Munich almost happened for the Portugal international last summer. All the perfunctory new-signing duties were also carried out at the Bavarian club, but Fulham pulled the plug at the last minute, having been unable to reach an agreement over the transfer fee.
This summer, Bayern again remain Palhinha’s likeliest destination, but he could yet be persuaded to move elsewhere. Regardless of his next destination, the defensive midfielder is set to be in Germany this summer with the Portugal national side to partake in UEFA Euro 2024.
Palhinha would be good, but United move unlikely
Palhinha would make a decent mid-to-long-term defensive midfield solution for United, but he again as a profile is closer to Casemiro and thus farther away from the kind of deep-lying midfielder Erik ten Hag has been wanting at Old Trafford, if his chase of Frenkie de Jong and the deployment of Kobbie Mainoo are anything to go by.
Additionally, Palhinha already looks set for a move to Munich, who after last year’s spending on Harry Kane and are keen on spending more for readymade solutions this summer to reclaim the domestic crown and vie for European glory.
