Gareth Southgate is under consideration for the Manchester United job after Thomas Tuchel pulls out
According to a report from the BBC, Manchester United no longer want to appoint Thomas Tuchel as their new manager after face-to-face talks with Sir Jim Ratcliffe. England boss Gareth Southgate is heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
INEOS, spearheaded by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, are waiting to make a decision over who will manage Manchester United next term and beyond, as Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford looks increasingly uncertain. Erik ten Hag, 54, delivered silverware for the second successive year as he guided the Red Devils to a 2-1 FA Cup final win over cross-town rivals Manchester City in May.
However, more than two weeks after the club’s FA Cup success, the Dutchman is yet to learn whether he will get a third season to manage at Old Trafford with INEOS carrying out a post-season review.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team have been exploring their managerial targets to find a potential replacement for Ten Hag. The BBC claims Thomas Tuchel, 50, was one of the names under consideration by INEOS should they decide to replace the Dutchman.
Thomas Tuchel held a meeting with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Monaco, France, last week. The 50-year-old laid out plans for what he would do at Manchester United should he replace Ten Hag. This is because the German tactician wants to take a break following his departure from Bayern Munich at the end of last campaign.
Former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Graham Potter have been linked with the Man United job. England’s Gareth Southgate, also on the club’s radar, attended Sir Dave Brailsford’s 60th birthday celebrations earlier this year, the report adds.
Southgate is currently leading England’s Euro 2024 campaign and could thus be unavailable for talks until at least mid-July. He has a contract with the Football Association until the end of 2024, so it will be interesting to see how this story develops as Man United play their first pre-season friendly a day after the Euro 2024 final.

As far as Tuchel is concerned, we can only assume that he took himself out of the running due to his interview with Sir Jim Ratcliffe not going according to the plan. It is no surprise this happened as the ex-Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea boss was not the answer for the Red Devils.
Meanwhile, Southgate has done a brilliant job for England but we don’t think he is the right fit for the job either.
