United’s right flank connection!!
Anthony has endured a difficult time in England, and the pressure on his shoulders has translated to his performances on the pitch.
Manchester United signed Anthony in a transfer worth an initial fee of 95 million euros (£81.3 million) in the summer of 2022, which compounded into the fourth most expensive signing in Premier League history. The transfer was regarded as one of the most anticipated moves at the time owing to his form at Ajax, where he was a nightmare for opposition left-backs with his blistering pace, technical skill, and eye for goal. His arrival at Old Trafford was met with sky-high expectations, as the supporters hoped he would replicate his success in the Dutch League and become a key figure in the team’s attack.
Can Dalot unlock Anthony potential at United?
Things looked quite well as Erik ten Hag got his man, and the duo already knew each other from their successful time together in Eredivisie.
However, the Brazilian continued to struggle at the club, and the fans started to turn against him as he continued to underwhelm with his performances.
Though for a right-winger, the connection that matters the most (even more than the one with fans) is the one with their right back. The duo operating on that side of the flank almost uses telepathy to anticipate each other’s movements and create scoring opportunities. Anthony has already forged a strong partnership with the first-choice right-back at the club, Diogo Dalot.
Manchester United’s official Instagram page asked the Brazilian ace on the platform about the names that he would go on a vacation with, where he credited his right-back compatriot for taking him to a beach.
The 24-year-old named Diogo Dalot as the player who has his back and has been his pillar of support from the club. This also shows the strong bond and friendship in the dressing room at the moment.
This is what the club’s official posted on their social media handle:
