Fabrizio Romano claims Manchester United have made an approach to sign Benjamin Sesko
Manchester United are poised to make an investment in a fresh striker during this upcoming summer transfer window, with Benjamin Sesko being linked to a move to Old Trafford. It’s evident that United’s squad requires reinforcements this summer, with securing a new striker being of utmost importance.
While Rasmus Hojlund has showcased his potential, the Danish talent undoubtedly requires support in the attacking third, particularly with Anthony Martial set to depart this summer. Given Martial’s exit after his contract came to an end, the need for a new striker was already apparent, and United seem to have identified several potential candidates.
One such target is Benjamin Sesko, the striker from RB Leipzig, who has been on United’s radar for some time. In 2022, United aimed to secure Sesko’s services from Red Bull Salzburg, but the player opted to join RB Leipzig instead, citing their playing style, which closely resembles that of Salzburg’s, as the primary reason for snubbing United.
United have continued to express interest in Sesko, and the striker’s representative was present at the 1-0 loss to Arsenal at home in May. Fabrizio Romano recently shared on social media that Sesko is currently “taking some time” to determine his next steps. RB Leipzig is making efforts to secure Sesko’s commitment to a new contract, likely aiming to amend his release clause.
Having turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia previously, Sesko is now deliberating whether to remain with RB Leipzig or pursue other options. Romano also reveals that United have initiated talks to secure Sesko’s signature, although they face competition from fellow Premier League contenders Arsenal and Chelsea. This places United in a significant battle to secure Sesko’s services, especially considering that the player may prefer to have clarity regarding his future before the commencement of Euro 2024.
Sesko’s impressive displays have positioned RB Leipzig to command a transfer fee higher than initially anticipated, though this valuation also exposes them to the risk of losing such a promising young striker. Acquiring another physically imposing and athletically gifted yet relatively inexperienced forward, just a year after securing Hojlund, might be perceived as somewhat risky.

However, if United can secure the services of two of the most promising young strikers in Europe, the need for additional reinforcements in that position could be alleviated for a considerable period. This is precisely why Sesko holds such appeal, and with a decision seemingly imminent, United will be eager to emerge victorious in the pursuit of his signature.
