Rasmus Højlund reveals favourite Premier League moment from debut Man United season

Man United forward Rasmus Højlund recently revealed his favourite Premier League moment from his debut season in England.

When asked about it as part of a social media engagement duty carried out by the official Premier League account on Instagram, the Denmark international revealed the game against Aston Villa on Boxing Day last year to be his favourite moment.

He was, of course, referring to the game in which he scored his first Premier League goal of the season in 82nd minute, which also proved the winner as United won 3-2.

The Dane’s response highlights what a tough first year it’s been for him in Manchester. Arriving from Atalanta in a £72m deal, the 21-year-old found goals hard to come by in the first half of the season but showed signs of promise towards the business end of the season.

Højlund arrived at Old Trafford last summer having signed a £85k-a-week deal set to run until June 2028. He is currently in Germany preparing for UEFA Euro 2024 as part of Denmark’s squad.

Højlund is finally looking promising

Asking a young forward with only one year’s worth of experience in a top-five European league to deliver regularly for a basket case of a fallen giant was always an unreasonably tough ask, so it’s not hard to understand why Højlund found things hard in the early months.

There is no doubt United have overpaid for the young Dane, but what also can not be doubted is his immense potential. Despite scoring his first league goal in December, he managed to hit the double-digit mark by the time the season ended, demonstrating his growth in the back end of the campaign.

Højlund may yet manage to justify his price tag in the years to come, but United will also need to make some right calls going forward.
