Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be set for a sensational Premier League return as the new boss of Leicester City.
According to SunSport, Leicester City have reached out to former Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they compile a list of potential candidates to succeed Enzo Maresca.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his eagerness to tackle the task of ensuring the Championship victors remain in the Premier Division. The former Manchester United icon, who holds a high regard from Leicester City chairman Top Srivaddhanaprabha, was narrowly pipped to the post last summer by Enzo Maresca. Since then, despite receiving multiple managerial offers, both domestically and internationally, following his dismissal from United in November 2021, Solskjaer has declined them.
He was considered for the position of Canada head coach before Jesse Marsch was appointed last month. However, the 51-year-old is now eager to return to club management after narrowly missing out on the Besiktas job to former Rangers boss Giovanni Van Bronckhorst earlier this week.
Leicester City has shifted its focus to Solskjaer after another candidate, Maurizio Sarri, indicated he wasn’t interested in the position. Nonetheless, Solskjaer is determined to have another opportunity to manage in the Premier League and would not be deterred by the potential points deduction that Leicester might face for breaching PSR rules.
It would present an intriguing challenge considering Leicester possesses a commendable squad and clinched the FA Cup in 2021, thus holding significant prominence in domestic football. Moreover, Solskjaer has consistently expressed his affection for English football, making it highly improbable that he would or should decline the opportunity to manage at the top level once again.
If the Foxes decide to appoint Solskjaer, it’s a choice they’re unlikely to regret, given the Norwegian’s style of play, which suits a skilled team likely to engage in rapid transition football.Solskjaer demonstrated during his tenure at United that he excels as a man manager and is often underestimated in terms of tactical acumen. Reflecting on the squad he guided to third and second place, it’s evident he worked wonders.
