As reported by German publication BILD (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have made an enquiry over FC Schalke youngster, Assan Ouedraogo. The 18-year-old made five goal contributions over 18 appearances last season.

Last week it was becoming more and more likely that the Bundesliga 2 midfielder would be heading over to Bayern Munich. However, the German giants were not able to reach a deal for Ouedraogo and others are now in line.

Apart from Manchester United, Premier League giants, Liverpool have also shown some interest in signing the 18-year-old midfielder. It is being reported that a deal for Ouedraogo would cost about £8.5m.

The FC Schalke midfielder is clearly a very affordable option for Manchester United. However, they have to keep his fitness issues in mind. Last season Assan missed over 40 games due to recurring injuries.

If his body can’t handle the physical taxation of Bundesliga 2, there is no guarantee that he will be able to handle the intensity of the Premier League. So, the deal could very easily backfire on the Red Devils.

They also have to keep their own injury issues in mind. Last season, Erik ten Hag had to deal with 60 separate cases of injury at Old Trafford. He likely won’t be too happy if the club adds another injury-prone player to the mix.
