Morten Hjulmand open to Premier League move amid Manchester United interest
Manchester United-linked Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand has acknowledged that he dreams of playing in the Premier League one day, as quoted in a report by Danish outlet Tipsbladet.
The Denmark international, 24, has emerged as a priority target for the Red Devils after a fantastic season in Sporting CP colours. After signing from Italian side Lecce last summer, he quickly became a crucial cog in Ruben Amorim’s side as they cruised to the Liga NOS title.
Manchester United are looking to shake up their midfield unit as they aim to strengthen the squad under the tutelage of new minority owners INEOS. The need for a young, strong and dynamic defensive midfielder has increased after Casemiro’s transfer links with Saudi Arabia.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. are interested in signing Morten Hjulmand, who is currently preparing for the Euro 2024 in Germany where he will have the opportunity to prove himself on the big stage.
When asked about his future, the Denmark international was coy about links with Manchester United but revealed that he would love to have a taste of Premier League football.
“I’d say that it is a destination I could see myself going to in the future. Whether it’s a dream, I don’t know. But it is a goal for me to play in the Premier League one day,” Hjulmand told Tipsbladet in an interview.
The Dane’s first season at Sporting has also caught the eye of Man United skipper Bruno Fernandes, who was effusive in his praise for the 24-year-old midfielder back in March.
Asked about Fernandes’ comments, Hjulmand stated: “It’s always nice to get praise from other big profiles. I know he’s a former Sporting player and he’s still a big fan of the club, so it’s great to know that he’s still watching.
“It can only make me happy to get praise from a player like him.”

While on international duty, Hjulmand is helping Denmark get ready for the Euro 2024 campaign. An impressive debut season in Portugal have put him on Man United’s radar, although we will need to activate his mammoth € 80 million release clause to bag his signature this summer.
